Mr. Ian Thandi Githae is the alternate Director to the Principal Secretary; State Department for Irrigation. He is the Director, Climate Resilience for Water and Food Security at the State Department for Irrigation in the Ministry of Water, Sanitation & Irrigation.

He holds a Master of Science in Engineering Hydrology from the UNESCO-IHE. Delft in Netherlands and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the College of Biological and Physical Sciences at the University of Nairobi.

Additionally, Mr. Githae holds several Certificates in water courses such as Certificate in Water Management from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Rehovot Israel, Certificate in Groundwater Modelling from the Ethiopian Water Technology Center, Certificate in Advanced Watershed Management from the University of Chicago; USA, Certificate in Disaster Management from the Cranfield University and Certificate in Hydro-Isotope Data Evaluation from Kenya.

Mr. Githae is also well versed in other areas of training such as Project Management, Disaster Management, Geospatial Database development and    Management using (ArcGIS, Remote Sensing Goble Positioning System, Food Security and Drought Management. He is trained in leadership courses such as Strategic Leadership and Performance Management,

He brings on board his vast experience in the water sector having held various positions at the Ministry of Water, Sanitation & Irrigation. He has worked as the Ag. Director, Land Reclamation where he was tasked with the formulation of land reclamation standards and guidelines while supervising implementation of land reclamation policies and strategies. He was also in charge of Micro-Irrigation in schools and Ground water Management.

Mr. Thandi is a member of the Strategy, Technical and Business Development and Finance committees of the Board.
