Water, Environment and Natural Resources (WENR) AIDS Control Units (ACU) are active sub-committees of the Public Sector Working Group (PSWG) which brings together all the ACUs from MDA of the Ministry of Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Ministry of Petroleum and Mining.

In line with the Performance Contracts and the MAISHA Certification requirements, sectoral quarterly meetings are scheduled. WENR this past quarter hosted a workshop in Machakos County and in attendance were nineteen (19) institutions represented from various institutions including NWHSA. Also present at this meet was a member of NACC, Ms Salome Ochola who expressed gratitude by indicating that National Aids Control Council (NACC) was impressed by WENR for the good working relationship, team cohesiveness and forwarding of quarterly reports.

Presentations included – Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV), Emerging Issues on HIV and AIDS, Gender Based Violence, types of Gender Based Violence, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Root Causes of GBV, How GBV contributes to HIV & AIDS Vulnerability, Contributing factors and linkages between SGBV and HIV Opportunities for Multi-Sectoral Interventions.

Members also participated in a Community Outreach activity planned by Athi Water Services Board (AWSB) at Terry Children’s Home within Machakos County. Members donated clothes, books and foodstuffs. This was an opportunity for members to learn how to engage with vulnerable children in HIV mainstreaming.
