NWHSA Chairman Erick Okeyo, Directors Jane Mwikali and Samuel Mwati accompanied by NWHSA staff visited Kitui and Makueni county projects being implemented by the Authority early July, 2020.
Director, Samuel Mwati, Ag. CEO CS. Sharon Obonyo and General Manager, Technical Planning and Design, Engineer Henry Kigenyi paid a courtesy call to Deputy County Commissioner Kitui Central, Ms. Josephine Kihara and briefed her on the revival of Umaa dam project. She was ecstatic on the news and said this would bring much relief to the residents of Kitui town.
Director, Samuel Mwati, Ag CEO CS Sharon Obonyo and General Manager, Technical Planning and Design, Engineer Henry Kigenyi led the NWHSA in a joint meeting CEC Tourism, Sports & Culture, Mr. Patrick Musau and CEC Water, Agriculture and Livestock Mr. Emmanuel Kisangau. Mr. Musau requested for possible partnership with NWHSA on forming Kalundu Dam area into recreational facility. The county government is currently creating an Eco Park within the dam area where works have been put in place to make it a wealth creation opportunity for the county.
CEC Water, Agriculture and Livestock Mr. Emmanuel Kisangau cited that Kitui County has a huge potential for rain water harvesting and welcomed the revival of Umaa Dam construction. The project had stalled for about eight years and after amicable settlement with contractor, NWHSA signed a contract with a consultant to assess and review the design, check the soundness of the existing structures and supervise the remaining construction works before actual construction can begin.
The NWHSA Chairman, Erick Okeyo MBS, MKIM, accompanied by Director Jane Mwikali paid a courtesy call to Mbooni Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Omboka in his office where they briefed him on the Mbooni NG- CDF 6No. Boreholes funded by the CDF and being implemented by NWHSA. The DCC told the NWHSA team the water challenges the county is facing and actions required to increase water availability in the county and thanked him for partnering with Mbooni East MP, Eratus Kivasu. NWHSA donated some tanks, face masks and handwashing soap in the fight against COVID-19.
NWHSA Ag CEO CS Sharon Obonyo, signed a contract with Mbooni NG-Constituency CDF for hydro geological surveys, drilling, capping, test pumping and equipping of 6 boreholes and construction of powerhouses in Mbooni East and West wards. These boreholes shall increase access and availability of water in these areas. Contract was signed on behalf Mbooni NG-CDF Fund Account Manager – Mr Paul Kimilu and NG-CDF Fund Manager Mr. Joshua Mbondo in the presence of Doris Mwangi, NWHSA Ag. Chief Legal Officer. In addition, NWHSA donated some tanks, face masks and handwashing soap in the fight against COVID-19.
